Place du Commandant Maria

Place du Commandant Maria is a public square and garden in Cannes, anchoring the Prado République district among city buildings. Its 3,200 square metres include trees, planted areas, paths, and open ground. On the southern side, an orderly layout meets existing buildings before a central axis opens north towards surrounding hills. The surrounding residential and commercial buildings frame this space.

The city developed this garden square through the Prado République renewal, completing it in 2008 with Vincent Guillermin and his team. The planted centre follows a more organic pattern. The project also reshaped part of Boulevard de la République, extending the garden across the street through a mirror effect. This creates a link towards housing to the north.

Varied plant species provide shade, while the accessible space supports strolling, sitting, small gatherings, and community events. People with reduced mobility can access the square. Main roads, public transport, and nearby parking connect the meeting place with Cannes’s wider urban area.
