La Croisette

La Croisette is a 2.6-kilometre boulevard in Cannes, following the Mediterranean coastline. One side presents grand hotels, white façades, ornate balconies, and luxury boutiques with designer displays. Blue chairs line the promenade, offering views across the sea and a place to watch passers-by. Along the opposite side, golden-sand beaches alternate between public stretches and hotel-connected private sections.

The coastal path began as a route used by donkeys and pilgrims before becoming Cannes’s celebrated promenade. Its origins reach back to the late nineteenth century, when Lord Brougham discovered the bay and settled here. The Palais des Festivals brings cinema to the seafront, with its glass-and-steel structure, red carpet, and Cannes Film Festival. The building replaced the municipal casino that hosted the first festival in 1946.

Restaurants, beach clubs, parties, exhibitions, and cultural events give the boulevard different energy throughout the day. The nearly century-old Majestic Hotel adds a private beach, an outdoor pool, a spa, and views towards the sea and Palais des Festivals. At night, the blue chairs and illuminated façades frame a waterfront where luxury, cinema, and Mediterranean leisure meet.
