Schünemannhaus
Schünemannhaus stands in Bremen’s Mitte district, forming part of the Schlachte ensemble beside the city’s historic centre. The building serves as headquarters for Schünemann Verlag, a publishing house rooted in Bremen.
Schünemann Verlag began at Zweite Schlachtpforte 7 in 1810, then expanded into neighbouring buildings. Between 1925 and 1927, Carl Rotermund designed a new structure across the street’s entire west side. Carl Rotermund also directed the 1952 renovation. Conservative 1920s architecture reflects the interwar design period.
Monument protection has covered the building since 1973. After the war, Weser Kurier was printed among the ruins, linking this address with the return of a free press. That detail connects publishing, architecture and Bremen’s post-war history.
