Kulturhaus Walle

Kulturhaus Walle stands in Bremen’s Walle district as a community and cultural centre housed in a former school. Its red-brick façade, hipped roof and stepped gable with a clock shape the view from outside.

Ludwig Beermann designed the school, built in 1901, and the building served educational purposes before Kulturhaus Walle–Brodelpott moved in during 1999. Exhibitions, performances, a music school, workshops and educational programmes now share its rooms. The Geschichtskontor explores everyday life and urban development in Bremen’s western districts through more than 20,000 historical photographs. A library serves readers of all ages, while a café and the Waller Umweltpädagogik Projekt add quieter and environmental activities.

Since 1984, monument protection has preserved the building’s distinctive architecture. The combination of stepped brickwork, a roofline and clock gives this community centre a clear link between Bremen’s school history and its cultural life.

Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Bremen. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.

What is myTuur?
