Horner Kirche

Horner Kirche stands in Bremen’s Horn-Lehe district as an Evangelical classicist hall church with a saddle roof. The building dates from 1822 to 1824 and replaced a church standing here since the twelfth century. Its eastern tower rises through three storeys, ending in an octagonal lantern around the bell chamber.

Wilhelm Weyhe reshaped the structure in 1894, moving the tower east and placing the altar on the west. Inside, rows of four supports divide the space into three naves, while a U-shaped gallery surrounds the side aisles. A copper crucifix by Claus Homfeld, a sandstone altar, and Paul Ott’s 1955 organ furnish the interior.

A walled cemetery holds historic graves and a war memorial beside the Horner Linde, believed 800 to 900 years old. The lime tree is regarded as Bremen’s oldest, while choirs, music groups, and a kindergarten connect the site with community life.
