Christuskirche

Christuskirche stands in Bremen’s Woltmershausen district as a protected monument with a distinct brick architectural presence. Its construction followed designs by August Abbehusen and Otto Blendermann.

Built between 1904 and 1906, the church combines neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque forms within a single nave. Its brick walls define the building’s single nave. The cross-shaped floor plan leads towards a slightly recessed choir with a five-eighths closure. A central tower rises between two smaller octagonal turrets. Above them, an octagonal pointed spire gives the church a clear vertical silhouette. Bremen’s monument preservation laws have protected Christuskirche since 1995.

The associated community house dates from 1955 and follows plans by Hermann Gildemeister and Hans Häring. The church community includes groups for seniors, parents, women, men, young people and children. Potters, knitters, flutists and choirs also have a place within its activities. A kindergarten also belongs to the Christuskirche community. Since 2008, its church music work has involved the Huchtinger St. Georg church community. The community welcomes everyone into its services and shared life.
