St. Wendelin
St. Wendelin Chapel stands in Günzegg, part of Böhen in Bavaria’s Unterallgäu district, as a Roman Catholic protected monument. Built in 1818, the chapel is dedicated to Saint Wendelin.
Its simple structure has a flat-roofed nave, pointed-arch windows, and a recessed choir with a semicircular ending. A round-arched entrance marks the front. A wooden roof turret rises above the gable, while the interior contains a marbled wooden altar from the early nineteenth century. The altar has a concavely curved mensa.
The retable niche holds a wooden figure of Saint Wendelin, and painted wooden figures enrich the chapel’s interior. They include a standing Madonna from around 1500, a crucifix, and an Immaculata from the late eighteenth century. The chapel’s Gothic touches appear in its pointed windows, while its rounded entrance and semicircular choir retain a quieter form.
St. Wendelin belongs to the churches and chapels associated with the administrative community of Ottobeuren.
