Topographie des Terrors
Topographie des Terrors is a museum in Berlin on the former site of the SS Reich Security Main Office, where the Gestapo, Sicherheitspolizei and Einsatzgruppen operated from 1933 to 1945. Indoor and open-air exhibitions trace these institutions, their crimes across Europe and the impact of Nazi policies on Berlin and its people.
A two-storey Documentation Centre presents the permanent exhibition across 800 square metres, while glass shelters excavated cellar walls from the Gestapo headquarters. The site also includes a seminar centre, a library of about 25,000 volumes and wheelchair-accessible spaces. Alongside the museum, a remaining section of the Berlin Wall follows the former street edge, and a tour connects it with the exposed building remains.
Greywacke covers the surrounding landscape, with a small stand of black locust trees recalling the site’s earlier use as a bumper-car ground.
