Metropol Park
Metropol Park stands in Berlin’s Mitte district, within the quiet Luisenstadt quarter near the heart of the city. Brick walls give the landmark its expressionist character. Berlin architect Albert Gottheiner designed the structure during the 1930s, when expressionist brick construction shaped its appearance. Its protected status preserves that architectural character for Berlin.
The building first served as the AOK health insurance administration building before its residential conversion. Axthelm Rolvien Architects led the interior transformation. The redevelopment preserved the historic structure while preparing its spaces for contemporary homes. That change created residential condominiums inside the former administration building. Its former administrative role remains part of the building’s story.
The facade’s brickwork keeps the 1930s expressionist design visible across the building’s exterior. Modern interiors now sit behind that historic facade. Here, one structure joins an AOK past with Berlin’s residential present.
