Humboldt Forum

Humboldt Forum stands in the reconstructed Berlin Palace on Museum Island, in Berlin’s historic centre. Its galleries explore human history, art, and culture. Inside, non-European collections from the Berlin State Museums meet temporary exhibitions and public events. Wheelchair access makes the museum suitable for visitors using wheelchairs.

The collections continue the work of two former museums, the Ethnological Museum of Berlin and the Museum of Asian Art. Their roots reach back to the Ancient Prussian Art Chamber, established in the mid-sixteenth century. Four major wings focus on America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. The Asian collection began as the Ethnological Museum’s Indian Department in 1904.

The building combines a historical exterior with modern museum spaces inside. Its original palace grew from a fifteenth-century structure. Reconstruction followed its wartime demolition and the later Palast der Republik era. The foundation stone was laid in June 2013. Two restaurants, a theatre, a cinema, and an auditorium also belong to the complex.

Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Berlin. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.

What is myTuur?
