Berliner Stadtmodelle
Berliner Stadtmodelle presents physical and digital models of Berlin’s city centre at several scales. The exhibition focuses on the inner city. Visitors can compare urban forms through models at scales of 1:1,000, 1:500, and 1:2,000. Each scale reveals different spatial relationships across Berlin’s central districts.
The 1:500 Berlin model shows construction in Mitte since reunification, with selected projects marked by lighting. An information terminal accompanies those highlighted building projects. A second 1:500 model presents East Berlin’s buildings and planning during the DDR era, before the Berlin Wall fell. Together, these models trace changes across distinct political and urban periods.
A tactile 1:2,000 model gives visually impaired visitors access to Berlin’s city structure through touch. Wheelchair accessibility supports a broader visit through the exhibition.
