St, Georg
St. Georg stands in Bayersried, part of Ursberg in Bavaria’s Bavarian-Swabian district of Günzburg. This Roman Catholic filial church belongs to the Diocese of Augsburg. A protected historic monument, it brings a nave, choir, and distinctive tower together in one architectural setting.
The nave and choir date from 1724, while the choir flank tower reaches back to 1666. Jakob Fröschle painted the frescoes inside the choir. Around 1750, Johann Baptist Enderle created wall paintings showing Jesus Christ among the apostles. Together, these works preserve religious art from two different periods within the same interior.
The tower’s fourth square storey contains a clock, while an octagonal storey houses the belfry above it. An onion dome crowns the tower above those two storeys. From outside, this sequence of square and octagonal forms gives the church a clearly recognisable silhouette.
