Plaça de Lesseps
Plaça de Lesseps stands in Barcelona between Sarrià-Sant Gervasi and Gràcia, where several major streets converge. Travessera de Dalt and Carrer Gran de Gràcia meet here. Ronda del General Mitre begins at this busy crossroads, while gardens and walking areas soften the traffic. Trees, benches, and two broad sections give pedestrians room beside the roads.
Traffic rerouting and pedestrian improvements reshaped the square while keeping surrounding building facades visible. Jaume Fuster library brings modern architecture to the square. Els Josepets church is the oldest building here, reaching back to the seventeenth century and the 1626 convent. Ferdinand de Lesseps lived nearby in Gràcia while serving as French consul from 1842 to 1848.
A beam crossing the square represents the Suez Canal, recalling Lesseps’s engineering work. Lesseps metro station, one of Barcelona’s oldest, serves line three. Buses connect districts beyond the square, while Mestre Balcells gardens and Plaça de les Dones del 36 lie nearby.
