Siam Commercial Bank stands in Talat Noi, within Bangkok’s Samphanthawong District beside the Chao Phraya River. Its early twentieth-century façade rises almost next to Holy Rosary Church, placing banking history among the neighbourhood’s riverside landmarks.
The first permanent office opened after the bank received a royal charter in 1907. Italian architect Annibale Rigotti shaped the building in the Beaux-Arts style, with construction taking place around 1908 to 1910. More than a century of use connects this riverside address with Thailand’s financial development. The Fine Arts Department recognises it as an unregistered ancient monument. In 1982, the structure received the ASA Architectural Conservation Award for architectural heritage.
Renovation work in 1995 helped preserve its structure and historical character. The clearest detail to hold onto is its setting: a Beaux-Arts bank almost touching Holy Rosary Church beside the river.
