วังสระปทุม

Wang Sa Pathum is a royal residence in Bangkok’s Pathum Wan District, Thailand. Its European-style building uses bright colours designed to protect the interior from Bangkok’s heat. The palace has served Thailand’s royal family, especially the House of Mahidol, since the nineteenth century.

King Vajiravudh granted Prince Mahidol Adulyadej the land in 1914, after an earlier plan remained unrealized. Queen Savang Vadhana supervised construction, and Italian architect Paolo Remidi completed the residence in 1916. Prince Mahidol later lived there with Princess Srinagarindra and his mother after returning to Siam in 1928.

The Queen Savang Vadhana Museum occupies the palace and commemorates the queen through Princess Sirindhorn’s initiative. Opened in 2008, it adds a museum to a residence connected with two royal weddings. Prince Mahidol married Sangwan Talapat there in 1920, while King Bhumibol Adulyadej married Sirikit Kitiyakara there in 1950.
