Thomas More Hogeschool

Thomas More Hogeschool is a university of applied sciences in Antwerp, Belgium, with campuses shaped by practical learning. Bachelor’s and master’s programmes span business, technology, health, education, social sciences, journalism, engineering, and design. Courses use Dutch and English, welcoming local and international students into a diverse campus community.

Its history reaches back to the Katholieke Vlaamse Hogeschool, founded in 1919 by Marie-Elisabeth Belpaire. The original school expanded access to higher education for women when Antwerp had no university of its own. French language studies came first, followed later by speech therapy, psychology, and business studies in the 1990s. In 2000, the school joined Lessius Hogeschool, while its professional bachelor’s programmes later became part of Thomas More. Since 2013, academic programmes have connected with KU Leuven and its association.

Practical internships and international exchanges connect classroom learning with future careers. Research addresses health, speech therapy, and educational innovation, including stuttering among young children. Applied computer science, social work, psychology, and teleaudiology show how widely the campus reaches.
