Potpolder van Lillo
Potpolder van Lillo lies southeast of Lillo, within Antwerp, beside the Scheldt and the port landscape. This nature reserve combines tidal water, mudflats, salt marshes and small creeks. A dike breach during the Dutch occupation first created the polder.
Port expansion later reshaped the surroundings, while the Sigmaplan transformed the reserve between 2010 and 2012. Sand was excavated and reused to build a ring dike over one kilometre long. Breaches in the old Scheldt dike now let tidal water enter and leave the polder. Migratory birds rest here, while protected species use the marshes for breeding. The Antwerp port region therefore forms part of a European protected bird area.
A service road on the ring dike offers views for walkers and cyclists. A parallel path reaches a peninsula that preserves part of the former Scheldt dike. Access to that peninsula pauses during the bird breeding season, protecting birds and their young.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Antwerp. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
