Ludo Coeckstadion

Ludo Coeckstadion is a football stadium in Berchem, Antwerp, built in 1929 with input from architect Frans Peeters. K. Berchem Sport plays its home matches here.

The first game brought Berchem Sport and PSV Eindhoven together in a gala match. Berchem Sport spent 41 seasons in Belgium’s top division. A major renovation in 2001 created 2,687 covered seats and space for more than 13,000 spectators. Most stands were demolished for safety reasons in 2018, and new ones followed with 2,800 covered seats.

The restored entrance gate and a special tribune from 1932 preserve visible links with the ground’s earlier form. Fans and locals still call the stadium Het Rooi, after the adjoining park. Ludo Coeck began his football career with Berchem Sport before moving to Anderlecht. A photographic project by Josef Dabernig also documented a match here during the 2018 Revisioning Lidl Sports Week.
