Kielpark
Kielpark is a public park in Antwerp’s Kiel district, south of the city centre and the Antwerp Ring road. You find walking paths, benches, grassy lawns, sports grounds, a playground, and an official dog park beside the Sint-Catharinakerk and Willem Eekelers sports park.
The green space began as Kiel cemetery, which closed in 1936 before opening as a park in 1952. Between 1952 and 1967, De Goede Woning built twenty social housing blocks along Jan De Voslei, adding 1,200 homes around its eastern edge. A redesign opened the dense vegetation beside Sint-Bernardsesteenweg, and renovation works finished in 2009.
Three sixteen-storey Kielparktorens rise nearby in distinctive Y-shaped forms. At the rear, a football field with a running track remains close to Jan Frans van de Gaerstraat.
