Jaïntempel van Antwerpen
Jaïntempel van Antwerpen stands in Wilrijk, Antwerp, as a Jain place of worship and meditation. White marble, carved patterns, and traditional forms give the building a distinctive presence. It is the only Jain temple on continental Europe and the largest outside India.
Construction began in India during the early 1990s, using traditional techniques and marble worked by hand. Workers completed the building there around 2000, then dismantled it piece by piece. Each section travelled to Belgium before builders reassembled the structure in Antwerp. The rebuilt site has served the Jain community since 2010.
Inside, prayer and meditation share space with an information centre about Jainism’s history, philosophy, art, and practices. Visitors can encounter a living tradition shaped by ahimsa, the principle of non-violence. Religious ceremonies and festivals bring the Belgian Jain community together throughout the year. White marble blocks preserve a remarkable journey from India to Wilrijk, like a carefully reconstructed architectural puzzle.
