Diamond Shaped Room with Yellow Light

Diamond Shaped Room with Yellow Light is an outdoor sculpture by American artist Bruce Nauman in Antwerp. It belongs to the Middelheim Museum’s permanent collection.

The work forms a diamond-shaped pavilion from prefabricated concrete panels, each weighing more than sixteen tons. Inside, bright yellow light fills the room.

Nauman uses the structure’s concrete, colour, and enclosed geometry to challenge your sense of space and perception. The light can dazzle visitors at entry.

Sound performances have taken place inside and around the pavilion, using its unusual acoustic properties. Artists have explored soothing sound against disorienting light.

The sculpture began with a sketch and drawing by Nauman before specialist companies assembled the heavy structure. The pavilion stands within Middelheim’s outdoor sculpture landscape.

Here, concrete and yellow light turn an architectural form into an intense sensory environment. Bruce Nauman connects sculpture with installation, performance, and physical experience.
