LAB 111
LAB 111 is a cinema and cultural centre in Amsterdam, housed in the former Pathologisch Anatomisch Laboratorium. The building belonged to the Wilhelmina Gasthuis hospital complex. Its Amsterdam School architecture appears in the brick façade, shaped windows, and decorative details.
The laboratory served medical research, autopsies, and tissue examinations before its medical use ended in 1983. It later became a cultural space for film, art, and community. Several screening rooms show modern classics, documentaries, independent films, restored works, and experimental cinema. Special events include filmmaker Q&As, festivals, themed series, and double features with dinner.
Strangelove provides a bar and restaurant for freshly made pizza and conversations before or after screenings. Hildo Krop’s sculptures add another artistic detail. Above the entrance, the original inscription “Pathologisch Anatomisch Laboratorium” still marks the building’s former purpose.
