Cecil John Rhodes
Cecil John Rhodes është një pikë historike në Kejptaun, e lidhur me një figurë britanike të Afrikës së Jugut. Këtu njihet veprimtaria e tij si financier, politikan dhe kryeministër i Kolonisë së Kepit.
Rhodes mbërriti në Afrikën e Jugut për shkak të problemeve shëndetësore dhe fillimisht punoi në një fermë pambuku në Natal. Më pas, fushat e diamanteve në Kimberley e çuan drejt krijimit të De Beers Consolidated Mines më 1888. Nga 1890 deri më 1896, ai drejtoi Koloninë e Kepit dhe mbështeti zgjerimin britanik në Afrikën jugore. British South Africa Company lidhet me kolonizimin e territoreve që sot njihen si Zimbabve dhe Zambia. Bursat Rhodes në Universitetin e Oksfordit mbeten një tjetër trashëgimi e tij, ndërsa politikat koloniale vazhdojnë të shkaktojnë kritika. Sythet e diamanteve dhe bursat universitare e tregojnë qartë dyzimin e ndikimit të tij.
