Katedralja Nëna Terezë
Katedralja Nëna Terezë rises in Prishtina with two bell towers shaped by Italian Romanesque architecture. Their clear forms draw inspiration from the cathedral in Prizren and overlook the city. Wheelchair access makes the cathedral available to visitors with reduced mobility.
Dr Ibrahim Rugova laid the foundation stone in 2003, while construction began in 2007 through donations. Many contributions came from the Albanian diaspora, including Jim Xhema, a Muslim Albanian businessman. Consecrated in 2017, the building reflects cooperation between different faiths and shared heritage. Inside, a small ampoule holds a drop of Mother Teresa’s blood, while stained glass presents sacred scenes and the Apostle Paul. The cathedral also connects its Christian setting with Dardania, an ancient Illyrian kingdom and later Roman province.
Look up at the dome, where two angels guard the inscription “Dardania Sacra”. Wooden carvings on the pews show eagle profiles, a lasting Albanian symbol. One bell tower can be climbed, offering a view across Prishtina.
