Signurun de Milan
Signurun de Milan stands in Milan’s Corvetto district, a three-metre Christ statue on a private balcony at 6 Via San Dionigi. Locals also call the figure el cristùn de cement.
From the south, people entering Milan once saw its raised hand offering a blessing. Years of damage removed the hand and its three raised fingers, which represented the Holy Trinity and an old Milanese rent-paying custom. Local legends still surround the statue’s creation and installation. Gravel, Ticino River sand and cement give the late-nineteenth-century figure its plain, sturdy character.
Artist Antonio Mendola restored the statue in 2020 after its long history of damage. The balcony remains part of its setting. That unusual perch preserves the welcoming landmark above Via San Dionigi, where a three-metre figure watches over Corvetto.
