Casal Font d'en Fargues

Casal Font d'en Fargues is a Barcelona community building designed by noucentista architect Adolf Florensa and completed in 1928. Its donated plot came from Mateu Rovira and Concepció Ribó. Built for a local association of property owners and industrialists, it combined recreation, culture, neighbourhood services, and a cooperative shop with a performance hall. A horseshoe mezzanine overlooked the hall.

Members financed the original casino by buying bonds worth 25, 50, or 100 pesetas, covering furnishings and decoration as well. The café became a social hub. By late 1929, the main hall held 360 seats, while the café contained 43 tables and hosted theatre, concerts, dances, and puppet shows. A choir and library also followed.

The Spanish Civil War interrupted activities in 1936, when a revolutionary committee confiscated the premises and destroyed most association archives. The building later became a shop, furniture warehouse, and cinema before turning into a parish family centre in 1952. Barcelona’s city council acquired it in 2007, and restoration preceded the facility’s inauguration in September 2011 under a community association. The Associació Casal Font d'en Fargues manages the centre and organises educational, recreational, and artistic activities.
