Haus der Begegnung

Haus der Begegnung stands in Ulm as a community and educational centre with roots in the Dreifaltigkeitskirche. Dominicans founded the church in the late thirteenth century. World War II left only the outer walls of the nave, choir, and tower standing. The site later served as storage for the Ulm Museum and city theatre. A renovation in the late 1970s restored the tower and began rebuilding the entire structure. The church became Haus der Begegnung in 1984. Its Renaissance exterior includes an onion-domed tower, while the reconstructed interior supports contemporary gatherings. A staircase separates the nave and choir. Different levels create a large hall with a reconstructed stucco ceiling and frieze. The building also retains acoustics valued for concerts.

The Evangelical Church supports seminars, discussions, and programmes addressing social questions. A children’s café gives families another place within the centre. Modern media technology supports in-person and streamed events. The building connects Ulm’s architectural history with education, dialogue, and community activities.
