Epplehaus

Epplehaus is a self-managed youth and cultural centre in Tübingen, Germany, with roots in protest and music. Its story began after fire destroyed the Schwabenhaus youth club.

After a concert, young people occupied a vacant former bank building and demanded a space of their own. The city later purchased the building and gave it to youth work. The building carries a history of self-management, volunteer organisation, and alternative culture. Its name commemorates Richard Epple, who died in a police shooting.

A dedicated association has guided the house for decades, keeping its independent structure alive. The vaulted cellar became a renowned stage for live music. Punk, metal, reggae, hardcore, rock and alternative acts have all appeared there. The centre gives young DJs professional equipment and opportunities to perform. Its studio supports music production, while its rooms host concerts, meetings and creative projects. Epplehaus connects music, activism and community through collective responsibility and shared space.
