Sankt Fidelis
Sankt Fidelis stands in Germany as a protected monument shaped by Neobaroque architecture, with calm symmetry, towers, arches, and richly detailed façades. Heinrich Hauberrisser designed the complex, completed in 1921 after an earlier Capuchin monastery disappeared through secularization. The church and monastery created a centre for worship, community, and learning. A boys’ seminary occupied rooms beside the monastery.
The seminary closed in 1972, and the neighbouring Goethe-Gymnasium then used its former rooms. Since 1994, former monastic cells have provided student accommodation. Renovation work in 1976 and 1977 preserved the church while its religious role continued. For decades, the building served as a branch church for the Herz Marien parish.
The last mass in December 2023 ended the church’s liturgical use. Today, school facilities and student rooms occupy spaces once shaped by prayer and study. The protected towers and arches keep those changing layers visible in one architectural ensemble.
