Maison des Métallos
Maison des Métallos stands in Paris as a cultural venue where industrial architecture frames exhibitions, theatre, concerts, and workshops. Large skylights and exposed metal beams keep its factory past visible.
Built in 1881 as the Gautrot musical-instrument factory, the building later carried the Couesnon name. In 1936, the Union Fraternelle des Métallurgistes acquired it. Inaugurated as the Maison des Métallurgistes in 1937, it gathered union offices, meeting rooms, legal advice, a canteen, and cultural facilities. Paris bought the property in 2001 after local associations and the UFM worked to preserve it.
Today, each month brings a new artistic team and a thematic programme spanning several forms. Exhibitions, performances, concerts, and workshops often engage political questions. Rehearsal rooms and audiovisual studios support creative and research projects connected with the surrounding community. Inside, a three-hundred-seat auditorium joins contemporary use to the original industrial details.
