Placa a Félix Solesio

Placa a Félix Solesio is a historical marker in Málaga honouring Félix Solesio, an Italian businessman from the eighteenth century. The plaque stands at the Palacio de Solecio on Calle Granada.

José de Gálvez commissioned Solesio to manage playing-card exports to Spanish America during the eighteenth century. Solesio developed paper manufacturing expertise in Genoa. That experience supported several factories in Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmádena, linking local industry with international trade.

His fortunes later declined, leading to the seizure of his residence, the Palacio de Solecio. Málaga Hace Historia includes this historical plaque. The project marks people and events connected with Málaga’s past across the city.

Its distinctive design uses an oval blue acrylic plaque with white lettering. The blue surface makes the marker easy to recognise. The plaque connects Félix Solesio with Málaga’s paper industry and overseas card trade.

It also places his story within the city’s broader historical record. Málaga Hace Historia includes markers dedicated to figures such as Luis de Unzaga and Ruy López de Villalobos. Luis de Unzaga served as governor of Louisiana. Ruy López de Villalobos gave the Philippines its name. Together, these markers present Málaga through local industry, international commerce and wider historical connections.
