Kapelle St Agatha

Kapelle St Agatha is a Catholic chapel in Hummertsried, with origins reaching back to 1482. Agathe von Stuben and Claus Schindelin founded it. The chapel honours Saint Agatha and Nicholas of Myra, combining religious use with regional artistic heritage. A neoromanesque wooden high altar anchors the interior. Saint Joseph, Saint Agatha, and Saint Sebastian appear from left to right across its central figures. A classicist ceiling painting rises above them.

The gallery holds a mannerist crucifix dated between 1560 and 1610, with a compact body and inclined head. A harmonium also stands on the gallery. Inside, a Lourdes grotto, fourteen Stations of the Cross, and a guardian angel figure surround the worship space. The left wall carries a First World War memorial painting. A late Baroque bell from 1762 hangs in the tower beside a bell donated by Hummertsried residents in 1949. Father Alois Gessler, who served locally for twenty-five years, carved the tabernacle.

The chapel serves Catholic worship through weekly rosary prayer, baptisms, funeral rosaries, and weekday masses. Its local religious calendar includes a Saint Agatha feast, a May devotion, and a Polish-language mass. The tour presents Kapelle St Agatha as an early stop in Leutkirch im Allgäu.
