Italienische Blumen-Wassertreppe
In Germany, the Italienische Blumen-Wassertreppe forms a broad water staircase beside the shore. It links higher Mediterranean terraces with the lower garden area. Water runs between stone steps, while slender columnar yews frame the route downward. Seasonal flowers bring changing colour and structure to the terraces.
Created in 1982, the feature uses Calanca gneiss from Switzerland’s Ticino region. Its steps follow Italian Renaissance garden designs. The bordering yews are the columnar cultivar Taxus baccata ‘Fastigiata Robusta’. Small cascades reflect light, while autumn foliage frames stone and water in different colours.
