Old Town Hall
Altes Rathaus stands at the north-west corner of the market square in Germany. Its steep roof, sandstone details, and pointed gable create a layered silhouette. Slender vertical elements give the gable a strong upward rhythm above the façade.
The building’s core dates from around 1500 and belongs to the late Gothic period. An octagonal Renaissance cupola tower rises above it. Eighteenth- and nineteenth-century alterations leave several architectural periods visible together. A Baroque bell roof completes the tower above the Renaissance structure.
Above the oriel, a large stucco coat of arms shows Elector Karl Theodor and bears 1787. A former guardhouse from the early nineteenth century extends the ensemble at one side. From the square, tower, gable, emblem, and smaller building read like a timeline in stone and timber.
