Klara Heß
Klara Heß commemorates a German Jewish nurse whose life connected Ermreuth in Bavaria with Jewish healthcare in Nuremberg. She was born in Ermreuth, Bavaria, Germany. Her parents, Isak Heß and Mina Strauss, raised her in the Bavarian village of Ermreuth. As head nurse, or Oberin, she led the Jewish Nurses’ Association in Nuremberg and served her community through nursing. Her work focused on Jewish healthcare in Nuremberg. A photograph associated with Klara Heß shows her in this nursing role during the 1930s. Her sister Regina shared her final address at Schlageterplatz 8. Nazi persecution deported both sisters from Nuremberg to Riga, where they disappeared at the Jungfernhof concentration camp. Their fate remains uncertain after their disappearance in Riga.
