Else Frank

The history spot Else Frank recalls a Jewish woman and her family, who lived in Frankfurt before Nazi persecution transformed their lives. Her father, Kalmann Levi, taught and served as a cantor. Else married Salomon Frank, and their family endured persecution, forced moves, and separation within Frankfurt during the 1930s. The destruction of the Höchst synagogue marked a devastating moment for the Levi family. Else’s grandfather, Moses Friesem, was attacked while rescuing objects from the burning building. In 1942, Else gave birth to Moses with help from her sister Lotti. Later that year, Else, Salomon, and their children were deported to Auschwitz. Auschwitz became the site of their murder. The youngest child, Moses, died in Theresienstadt, while Lotti survived the camps and later emigrated to Australia. Stolpersteine commemorate Else Frank and her family in Frankfurt.
