Dina Durlacher geb. Frank
The Dina Durlacher geb. Frank memorial lies on Bergerstraße in Frankfurt, among the city’s Stolpersteine commemorating Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Small brass plaques sit in the pavement, marking the family’s former home.
Dina, born in Schondra in 1881, lived here with her husband Julius and their children Karoline, Meta, and Leo. The family moved between Bergerstraße and Sandweg from 1911, facing growing persecution under the Nazi regime. Julius, a baker from Baden-Baden, lost his employment in 1933 and later performed forced labour at the Jewish cemetery. Dina and Julius were deported to Kaunas in 1941, where they were murdered three days later. Their children also suffered deportation and murder in Łódź, Sobibor, and elsewhere.
The plaques also remember Julius’s sister Hermine, bringing several connected lives together along one Frankfurt street. The memorial is wheelchair accessible, and its brass lettering places a family history directly beneath your feet.
