13er Husaren-Denkmal
The 13er Husaren-Denkmal stands in Frankfurt’s Senckenberganlage as a memorial connected with the First World War. Artist Carl Hochscheidt created this memorial for Frankfurt.
It commemorates soldiers of the Royal Prussian Thirteenth Hussar Regiment, known as King Humbert of Italy. The memorial first stood in Bockenheim before moving.
Its setting is the park-like Senckenberganlage in the Westend, near its earlier Bockenheim location. The monument uses shell limestone throughout its structure.
An octagonal, three-tiered platform supports an Iron Cross-shaped pedestal and a square shaft that broadens upward. Crowns and stars appear in relief on every side.
Inscriptions include a dedication to the fallen regiment and a Latin phrase expressing victory after defeat. The sides preserve a historical message about duty and remembrance.
Its square shaft widens upward before narrowing through stepped sections at the summit. This history spot links Frankfurt with its military past.
