Passeig de Vara de Rey

Passeig de Vara de Rey is a pedestrian boulevard in central Eivissa, where colonial-era buildings frame an open urban promenade. Artisan shops, luxury boutiques, and restaurants with terraces bring local life around you, while the nearby port gives the setting a clear connection to the city’s waterfront.

A monument at the centre honours Joaquín Vara de Rey y Rubio, an Ibiza-born general who died at the Battle of El Caney in 1898. Donations from across Spain funded the memorial, with bronze supplied by Barcelona’s artillery park before its inauguration in 1904. The boulevard and neighbouring Plaça del Parc were refurbished and pedestrianised in 2017, creating space for strolling, festivities, public art, and gatherings.

At the port end, the Montesol Hotel recalls meetings between intellectuals and artists and remains a social meeting point. During the Can Art Fair in 2024, the open space also held Roby Dwi Antono’s bronze sculpture Nalakala.
