Schule An der Brinkmannstraße
Schule An der Brinkmannstraße stands in Bremen’s Hemelingen district as a historic school building with layered architectural history. Reinhard Ahlemann designed its original structure in 1909. Otto Conrad Friedrich Bräutigam remodelled the building in 1931, introducing a white facade and a flat Bauhaus-style roof. The remodel also added a clock tower, which no longer remains. Bombing damaged the school during the Second World War, and repairs followed in 1943. The Wehrmacht occupied the building until the war ended.
The school resumed educational activities in late 1945 after the wartime occupation. Local protests helped prevent demolition plans in 1995. Their efforts helped preserve the building, which became a protected monument after that campaign. Renovations in 1997 and 1998 restored parts of the structure. The school provides inclusive education within Bremen’s educational landscape. It maintains partnerships with Werder Bremen and Universum Bremen. A six-part woodcut painting of Bremen by Theodor Schultz-Walbaum hangs in the stairwell.
