Xemeneia de la Macosa
Xemeneia de la Macosa rises in Barcelona’s Poblenou district as a concrete industrial chimney with a distinctive ten-sided prism shape. Built in 1950, it reaches 65.3 metres, making it the city’s tallest industrial chimney.
The structure is the last surviving part of the Macosa factory, whose origins trace back to the Girona family’s metalworking businesses in the mid-nineteenth century. Production grew from horseshoes and rolled steel to railway carriages, wagons, tram cars, buses and trolleys, while the complex expanded across 164,000 square metres and employed more than 1,200 workers. Factory buildings later gave way to Diagonal Mar park and its commercial area, leaving this chimney among a transformed urban landscape.
Its ten concrete sides preserve a clear link with Poblenou’s industrial past and Barcelona’s railway history.
