Teatro Filarmonico
Teatro Filarmonico stands in Verona as the city’s main venue for opera, ballet, and concerts. Its reconstructed building preserves a historical appearance and welcomes wheelchair users. Inside, Italian and international works share the programme with chamber music, symphonic concerts, and special events.
Construction began in 1716 and took about thirteen years, leading to an inauguration with Vivaldi’s La fida ninfa in 1732. Fire destroyed the building in 1749, while wartime bombing caused another destruction in 1945. The theatre reopened after its first reconstruction in 1754, then returned to performances in 1975 with Antonio Salieri’s Falstaff.
The repertoire combines familiar works such as Tosca and The Barber of Seville with pieces rarely performed elsewhere. Educational initiatives and collaboration with Fondazione Arena di Verona bring musical culture closer to younger audiences. The theatre’s long path from Vivaldi to Salieri leaves a clear mark on Verona’s artistic life.
