Molino Stucky
Molino Stucky stands on Giudecca Island in Venice as a former industrial flour mill with Gothic Revival architecture. Its brickwork and pointed arches remain visible.
Giovanni Stucky developed the complex with architect Ernst Wullekopf on the grounds of former convents San Biagio and Cataldo. The completed mill formed a major European flour enterprise.
Its industrial scale contrasted with Venice’s familiar canals, while tall narrow windows and decorative masonry shaped the building’s appearance. Labour disputes later marked this mill’s history.
After the flour mill closed, the complex stood unused for decades before restoration gave its industrial structure a new role. The restored complex now contains a large hotel.
Hilton Molino Stucky Venice combines preserved brickwork with modern interiors, nautical details, Murano glass chandeliers, and multiple connected wings. A rooftop bar overlooks the Venetian lagoon and skyline.
The building records Venice’s passage from manufacturing site to restored landmark through its surviving materials and changing use. Its Gothic Revival form remains the clearest identifier.
