Raum zur Meditation
Raum zur Meditation is a sculpture by Johannes Pfeiffer, standing southwest of the Mensa at the University of Ulm. Johannes Pfeiffer created this sculpture in the year 1990.
Bricks and steel cables form an open structure that recalls the upward shape of a church tower. The sculpture’s upper opening remains clearly visible from outside.
The work first stood inside a tent on Ulm Münsterplatz, marking the centenary of the Ulm Minster tower. The artwork belongs to the Kunstpfad around the university.
Its bricks and steel cables hold material and imagined spiritual movement in a single architectural form. The open top leaves this structure visibly unfinished.
Raum zur Meditation offers wheelchair access within the university setting. The sculpture invites attention to church towers, spiritual connection, and the boundary between solid walls and open space.
