Drei Grundfarben gegenübergestelt is a sculpture by Herbert Volz in Ulm, Germany, formed from abstract geometric shapes. Created between 1986 and 1987, it places red, yellow and blue forms opposite one another.
The arrangement turns three primary colours into a visual exchange between space and form. Volz developed this constructivist approach through sculptures and paintings focused on colour and geometry. His training in glass painting helps explain the strong attention to colour found in this work.
