Puri Saren Agung
Puri Saren Agung stands in Ubud, Bali, as a historic palace complex and former residence of Ubud’s royal family. The front section opens onto traditional Balinese architecture, gardens, and intricate stone carvings.
Tjokorda Putu Kandel oversaw its construction in the early 1800s, while the palace underwent restoration after the 1917 earthquake. Local artist I Gusti Nyoman Lempad created many of the carvings, connecting the royal setting with Ubud’s artistic tradition. To the north, the private royal temple Marajan Agung remains part of the complex.
The main pavilion hosts traditional Balinese dance accompanied by gamelan percussion orchestras. The palace also holds arts, dance, and literature events, including opening ceremonies for the annual Ubud Writers & Readers Festival.
