NSG Spetzgarter Tobel
NSG Spetzgarter Tobel is a nature reserve in Überlingen, beside the northern shore of Lake Constance. The Killbach runs through a gorge cut into Sipplingen molasse rock, with steep wooded slopes rising around it. The channel reaches depths of up to sixty-five metres.
Beech forests surround the gorge, supporting orchids and vegetation with partly alpine characteristics. Wooden bridges cross sections of the forested trail, while erosion and occasional landslides continue to shape the terrain. Hiking routes connect the reserve with Katharinenfelsen, Hödinger Tobel and the glacial mill known as Gletschermühle.
Open fields, forest paths and lake views create a changing route through the Überlingen landscape. Clear weather can reveal the Alps beyond Lake Constance. Near the gorge, water, rock and vegetation show how the Killbach has shaped this setting over thousands of years.
