San Giovanni Bosco
San Giovanni Bosco is an architectural spot in Italy connected with Giovanni Melchior Bosco, known as Don Bosco. His life focused on educating poor and vulnerable young people through care, presence and trust. Born on 16 August 1815, he founded the Salesian congregation and developed the preventive system. This approach favoured guidance and attention over punishment in education.
The work grew through schools, oratories and social projects that reached beyond Europe into the Levant. Michele Rua, Bosco’s close collaborator and the Salesians’ first rector major, travelled there in 1908 to strengthen local communities. Pope Paul VI proclaimed Rua blessed in 1972, while Bosco’s canonisation took place in 1934. The place therefore brings together youth education, religious life and practical responses to social need. Its lasting image is an oratory where teaching, prayer and celebration meet around a simple principle: education with love can change a future.
