In Italy, Chiesa di San Francesco da Paola presents a restrained façade with little hint of the interior. Inside, a single nave leads your gaze towards gilded stucco, marble revetments and a dominant high altar. Chapels line both sides, while canvas paintings and sculptural work animate the walls and create a layered Baroque setting.

The Minimi commissioned the church with support from Cristina of France and Cardinal Maurizio, members of the ducal household. Amedeo di Castellamonte designed the high altar, and Tommaso Carlone built it between 1664 and 1665. Its structure screens the choir and concentrates devotional attention on the sanctuary. The building became a parish in 1801 after the Minimi order was suppressed and the convent complex declined. Incendiary bombs damaged the roof and ceiling on 13 July 1943, leaving visible evidence of wartime survival.

Recent conservation repaired the sacristy, painted walls and chapels, while renewed flooring brought underfloor heating into the nave. Pause beside the altar, where marble and gilt still direct light, ritual and your attention.
