Chiesa delle Stimmate di San Francesco d'Assisi is a compact church with an octagonal form and a large dome crowned by a lantern. The parish bought the site in 1926 for a growing neighbourhood and entrusted the design to engineer Meano. Consecrated on 4 October 1929, the church became a parish on 4 October 1936.
An air raid damaged the church, oratory and parish house on 8 December 1942, while post-war repairs restored the complex. Growth during the 1950s and 1960s brought catechism classrooms, the small Umbria cinema-theatre, a nursery and an adjoining oratory. A bell tower joined the ensemble in 1996, while Meano’s restrained modern classicism remains clear inside.
Eight pillars support the arches and blue dome, whose small cupola draws your gaze upward. The deliberately spare interior places Christ and Saint Francis in the apse, with a cross above the altar framed by Mary and Saint John. Levanto and Italian cipollino marble enrich the surfaces, while ritual-lamp-inspired chandeliers hang overhead.
